Nativity

P1-3 performed 'The Smallest Angel' for their friends and family. The successfully learned their lines and songs and were confident enough to get up on to the stage and try their best. The retold the Christmas story with a Global twist. The smallest angel visited Hawaii (P3), Spain (P2), Scotland (P1A) and China (P1B) before settling on a little stable in Bethlehem for the baby Jesus to be born in. Everyone enjoyed the performance, especially our invited guests. The P.T.A presented the school with a cheque for £2000 towards updating our ICT suite. Thank you to everyone for coming along and supporting us.

Bulb Planting

We planted bulbs on Friday to support the "Rag Doll" Charity. These will grow in the spring and change the view from the middle school classrooms as they look out onto our growing nature reserve.

Changing Colours

We have been talking about the colours in nature changing as the seasons change and that led us on to thinking about how we can change the colour of things, such as our clothes. We experimented with white icing and food colourings too see what would happen and how we could change the colour of the icing. We then talked about how dyes are used to change the colours of our clothes and even our hair. We will continue to watch the world outside to see what other changes are taking place.

We have been thinking about the words more and less at maths time. We played a great numbertime game to help us. We used the smatboard to share out the smarties. We counted them, then made that number 1 more or less. We stamped pictures and made them more or less too.

Roly Poly

We have been learning how to use our bodies to roll on the mat. We can do long sausage rolls and tucked rolls. Next we will be learning how to do a forward roll safely.

Autumn Leaves

We looked at how the trees in our playground have changed. They have turned yellow, orange and brown. It is now autumn and the leaves have begun falling from the trees. We collected some to use in the classroom.

Our Sense of Taste

We drank lots of different types of juice. They were different flavours and had different tastes. They tasted sweet, salty, bitter and sour. We liked the sweet tasting lemonade the best. We were not that keen on the bitter lemon or the tonic water. We did not like these tastes. Then we tasted 4 different flavours of crisps. Our favourite was the salt and vinegar. We then ate a crisp whilst holding our nose. We couldn't identify the flavour. That is because our mouth and nose work together to help us identify flavours. This also keeps us safe when we are eating and helps to prevent us from eating food that is dangerous.

What a noise!

We have been thinking about our senses and how they help us to make sense of our new school environment. This week we have been thinking about our ears. We played lots of games on the smartboard where we had to guess the noise of the animal or musical instruments. We then got out the boomwackers and decided to make some noise of our own. We made quiet sounds, loud sounds, high sounds and low sounds. Listen to our Boomwacker Band. Do you like our sound?

Snack Time

It is hard work being in P1 so everyday we stop in the afternoon for ssnack time. We have water and fruit. It gives us a time to recharge our batteries so that we are ready to work.

Getting Ready for School

One of our first books home has been about a little girl called Sam getting ready for school. It was called The Snail. We talked about getting ready for school and then drew black pen pictures of us getting ready. Ms Johnston then wrote a sentence about our pictures. Some of us were able to have a go by ourselves.

Staying for Lunch

We now stay at school all day and enjoy lunchtime in the dining hall. We either have a school dinner or bring a packed lunch. We enjoy getting to spend some time with our friends from P1B. There are lots of grown ups in the dining hall to help us. Having a healthy lunch helps us to work hard and have fun in the afternoon.

People Who Help Us

There are lots of people in the school to help us. We haven't learned all of their names yet or the different places where they work but we will. We went on a walk around the school to meet some of the people who will help us in P1.

Alphabet

We are learning the names, sounds and letter shapes of all of the letters of the alphabet. We learn in lots of different and enjoy using the computers and the smartboard to help us. We also try to find pictures in catalogues of things beginning with the sound of the day.

Number 2

We have been thinking about the numbers up to 10. We were thinking about writing and counting in 2's. We read the story 'All Afloat on Noah's Boat' and then drew pictures of the animals that went in 2 by 2.

Our Morning Activities

We begin each day with a variety of activities. This term we can play in the sand, paint using red, yellow and blue, build with the lego or play in the school. We have lots of fun.

Today we met our new buddies. They took us to assembly and came out to play with us. They will help us throughout the year.

Our First Day at School

After saying goodbye to our parents we tried lots of new activities. We sang a song about number 1 using our fingers and thumbs. Then we met our new friend Snake who told us his letter sound. We found lots of things in our classroom beginning with 's', but the best was our socks. Evan's big brother came to visit us and he had the best socks on. We sang the 'Going Home Song' before our parents came back to get us. We had a great first day.

Our Playtime

After an exciting first morning, we went out to play in the playground. Some of us sat on the bench in the garden, whilst others sat in the Meet and Greet Shelter. We ate our snacks and had time for a quick run around before the bell went. Some of us did not have time to eat everything as we were too busy having fun!

Graduation from Nursery

We celebrated our graduation from nursery in style and all went home with a new book to read over the holidays in preparation for starting P1.
